Summary

Diamond C Trailer MFG. is recalling approximately 2,523 FMAX, SDX, and PX trailers from the 2023-2024 model years that are equipped with a spare tire winch. The winch system used to secure the spare tire to the trailer frame can loosen or fail completely over time. If the winch fails, the spare tire can detach from the trailer while in motion, creating a serious hazard for other drivers and increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will install a secondary retention device, consisting of a steel bar and latch, at no cost to owners.

Risk

The winch system may fail to maintain tension, allowing the spare tire to fall off the trailer and into the path of following vehicles, potentially causing a collision.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your trailer is affected by checking your model name and year; this recall specifically includes 2023-2024 Diamond C FMAX, SDX, and PX trailers equipped with a spare tire winch.
  2. Check the spare tire winch on your trailer to ensure the tire is currently secure, but be aware that the system may fail unexpectedly even if it appears tight.
  3. Contact Diamond C customer service at 1-903-572-2834 to schedule a free appointment for a dealer to install a secondary steel bar and latch retention system.
  4. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for more information regarding NHTSA campaign number 23V655.
