Summary

Airstream, Inc. is recalling approximately 1,587 of its 2012-2023 Basecamp 20X travel trailers. The spare tire carrier bracket on these trailers can experience metal fatigue and break, which may cause the spare tire to fall off while the vehicle is in motion. Owners should bring their trailer to an authorized Airstream dealer to have the bracket inspected and reinforced with additional support free of charge.

Risk

If the carrier bracket breaks, the spare tire can detach from the trailer and become a road hazard, significantly increasing the risk of a crash for following or oncoming vehicles.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your travel trailer to confirm if it is a 2012-2023 Airstream Basecamp 20X model.
  2. If you own an affected trailer, contact an authorized Airstream dealer to schedule a free inspection of the spare tire carrier bracket.
  3. During the service appointment, the dealer will inspect the bracket for signs of fatigue and install additional support or replace the bracket as necessary at no cost to you.
  4. If you have questions or need help finding a dealer, contact Airstream customer service at 1-877-596-6505 or 1-937-596-6111 (extensions 7401 or 7411).
  5. For further information, you may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
