Summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 9,312 vehicles, including certain 2022-2024 Maverick, 2020-2022 Escape, and 2021-2022 Lincoln Corsair models. A software error in the Hybrid Powertrain Control Module (HPCM) can cause these vehicles to unexpectedly shift into neutral while driving. This defect leads to a sudden loss of drive power, which can occur without warning. Ford dealers will provide a free software update to resolve the issue.

Risk

If the vehicle shifts into neutral unexpectedly, the driver will lose the ability to accelerate or maintain speed. This sudden loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash, especially when traveling at high speeds or in heavy traffic.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's make, model, and year to see if it is part of this recall: 2022-2024 Ford Maverick, 2020-2022 Ford Escape, or 2021-2022 Lincoln Corsair.
  2. Contact a Ford or Lincoln dealership to schedule a free appointment to have the Hybrid Powertrain Control Module (HPCM) software updated.
  3. If you have additional questions, contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and mention recall number 24S33.
  4. For further assistance, call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
