Summary

Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling approximately 880 vehicles from the 2023 model year, including certain E-Class, CLS, and AMG GT models. A software error in these vehicles may prevent the exit warning system from providing the necessary audio and visual alerts when a vehicle is approaching from behind. Mercedes-Benz dealers will provide a free software update to correct this issue to ensure occupants are properly warned before opening doors.

Risk

If the exit warning system fails to alert occupants of an approaching vehicle, someone may open a car door into traffic, significantly increasing the risk of a collision or injury to both the vehicle occupants and people in approaching vehicles.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if your vehicle is one of the affected 2023 models: E450, E350, AMG E63 S, AMG E53, CLS450, AMG GT53, or AMG GT43.
  2. Contact an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer to schedule a free appointment to have your vehicle's exit warning system software updated.
  3. If you have additional questions, contact Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) customer service at 1-800-367-6372 and mention recall number 2023080005.
  4. For further assistance or to check your VIN, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
