Summary

Soft Play has recalled about 200 Spider Climb enclosed vertical rope and plastic platform playground climbers. These units, primarily installed in McDonald's Restaurant Play Places, have climbing platforms that were designed too far apart, creating a significant gap. There have been 37 reported incidents, including 34 injuries to children who fell while climbing between levels. Soft Play has already contacted affected locations to install additional platforms and reduce the falling distance.

Risk

Children can fall while attempting to climb from one platform level to the next because the platforms were spaced too far apart. This defect has already resulted in 34 reports of injuries from falls within the enclosed tower assembly.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your local McDonald's Restaurant Play Place contains a Spider Climb unit, which is an enclosed vertical tower featuring multiple levels of plastic platforms, ropes, cables, and chains.
  2. Confirm if the unit was installed between February 2016 and October 2018.
  3. If you own or manage a facility with this equipment, ensure that Soft Play has already performed the free repair to install additional platforms and reduce the gap between levels.
  4. If the repair has not been performed, contact Soft Play collect at 704-948-3442 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday to schedule the free installation of additional platforms.
