Summary

Sietsema Farms Feeds Llc is recalling approximately 566 tons of bulk turkey feeds (designations T105, T106, T110, T113, T114, and T116) because they contain dangerously high levels of the drug Lasalocid sodium. The company initiated the recall after reports were received of turkey deaths suspected to be linked to the consumption of these feeds. These products were shipped to customers within Michigan starting in August 2014. If you have purchased any of these feeds, you should immediately stop using them and contact the manufacturer or your veterinarian.

Risk

The feed contains excessive concentrations of Lasalocid sodium, an ionophore drug. Consumption of these high levels is toxic to turkeys and has resulted in multiple reported animal deaths.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your inventory and farm records for bulk turkey feed with designations T105, T106, T110, T113, T114, or T116.
  2. Verify the product codes and lot numbers, which correspond to the designations: T105, T106, T110, T113, T114, and T116.
  3. Stop using these feeds immediately to prevent further illness or death in your turkey flock.
  4. Contact Sietsema Farms Feeds Llc at 19117 Lake Montcalm Rd, Howard City, Michigan, for instructions on how to return or dispose of the contaminated feed.
  5. If your turkeys have consumed this product, contact a veterinarian immediately to discuss the health of your flock and report any suspected illness or deaths.
  6. For additional questions or to report further incidents, contact the FDA consumer complaint coordinator at 1-888-463-6332.
