Summary

Ivena is recalling about 70,000 teak shower benches sold exclusively at Costco because the benches can collapse, break, or fall apart during use. There have been 81 reports of these benches failing, resulting in four injuries including a fractured tailbone, bruising, and persistent head and body aches. The recalled benches are 20-inch light brown teak with wood paneling on the seat and shelf, and padding on the feet. Consumers should immediately stop using these benches and return them to any Costco location for a full refund.

Risk

The shower bench can structuraly fail or collapse while a person is sitting on it, posing a significant fall hazard. This has already resulted in reported injuries such as a fractured tailbone and head trauma.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your shower bench to see if it is an Ivena 20" teak model with item number 1049998 and UPC 8886474018015 printed on the original packaging.
  2. Look for a label on the bench that states '100% wood from well-managed forests' and verify it is light brown teak with padding on the feet.
  3. Immediately stop using the recalled shower bench to prevent a fall or injury.
  4. Return the bench to any Costco warehouse for a full refund; Costco is also contacting all known purchasers directly.
