Summary

Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling approximately 6,752 model year 2022 C300 vehicles because moisture can accumulate in the trunk and leak into the Signal Acquisition Module (SAM). This moisture can cause an electrical short circuit within the module, potentially leading to critical safety failures. Dealers will install a protective cover for the module free of charge to prevent water intrusion.

Risk

A short circuit in the Signal Acquisition Module can cause rear exterior lights to fail, the rear seats to fold unexpectedly, or the rearview camera to stop working, all of which increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, the electrical short circuit poses a significant risk of starting a vehicle fire.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is an affected 2022 Mercedes-Benz C300 by checking the VIN on the NHTSA website or contacting a dealer.
  2. Contact an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer to schedule a free appointment to have a protective cover installed over the Signal Acquisition Module (SAM).
  3. If you have questions, contact Mercedes-Benz USA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 and mention recall number 2022090011.
  4. For additional information, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
