Ford Motor Company: Lincoln Aviator and Corsair Recalled for Seat Belt Warning Chime Malfunction

Summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 101,001 vehicles, including 2020-2023 Lincoln Aviator and 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsair models equipped with Revel Audio Systems. The seat belt warning system in these vehicles may only sound for less than 4 seconds when the driver is unbelted, which is an insufficient amount of time to meet federal safety standards. This defect means the vehicle fails to properly alert occupants that they are not secured, increasing the danger during a collision. Ford dealers will provide a software update for the audio control module to fix the issue at no cost to owners.

Risk

The audible warning chime may stop too quickly, failing to properly alert the driver that their seat belt is unbuckled. This increases the risk of serious injury during a crash if the occupant remains unbelted.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking if it is a 2020-2023 Lincoln Aviator or a 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsair equipped with a Revel Audio System.
  2. Locate your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and contact any Ford or Lincoln dealer to schedule a free appointment to have the audio control module software updated.
  3. If you have further questions, contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall number 22C35.
  4. Contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for more information.
