Summary

Hyundai is recalling approximately 14,933 vehicles, including the 2023 Genesis G80 Electric, 2021-2022 Santa Fe Hybrid, and 2022-2023 Santa Fe Plug-In Hybrid. The front driver-side and passenger-side seat belt pretensioners may explode upon deployment during a crash. To resolve this issue, Hyundai dealers will install a protective cap on the pretensioners at no cost to owners.

Risk

In the event of a crash, the seat belt pretensioner can explode and project metal fragments into the vehicle cabin. These fragments can strike occupants, causing serious injury or death.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking your vehicle's make, model, and year against the following list: 2023 Genesis G80 Electric, 2021-2022 Santa Fe Hybrid, or 2022-2023 Santa Fe Plug-In Hybrid.
  2. Locate your 17-character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and enter it at www.nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm if your specific vehicle is part of this recall (Hyundai recall number 238/011G).
  3. Contact an authorized Hyundai or Genesis dealer to schedule a free repair, where technicians will secure the seat belt pretensioners with a protective cap.
  4. If you have further questions, contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 and reference recall number 238/011G.
