Newmar Corporation: Bay Star, Bay Star Sport, and Super Star Motorhomes Recalled for Seat Belt Failure

Summary

Newmar Corporation is recalling 372 motorhomes, including certain 2019-2023 Bay Star, 2020-2023 Bay Star Sport, and 2022-2023 Super Star models. The seat belt mounting brackets for the dinette seating area were modified to avoid hitting floor rollers, but these modifications made the brackets weaker than required by federal safety standards. Newmar dealers will replace the affected mounting brackets with compliant hardware at no cost to owners.

Risk

The modified seat belt mounting brackets can fail during a crash, which prevents the seat belt from properly restraining a passenger. This significantly increases the risk of serious injury or death to occupants in the dinette area during a collision.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your motorhome is affected by checking your model and year: 2019-2023 Newmar Bay Star, 2020-2023 Newmar Bay Star Sport, or 2022-2023 Newmar Super Star.
  2. Locate the dinette seating area in your vehicle and exercise caution when using these seats until the repair is completed.
  3. Contact Newmar customer service at 1-800-731-8300 to schedule a free repair at an authorized dealer. Refer to Newmar recall number 604RSB.
  4. If you have further questions, you may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
