Honda (American Honda Motor Co.): Front Seat Belt Buckle May Not Latch

Summary

Honda is recalling approximately 448,613 vehicles, including various 2017-2020 CR-V, 2018-2019 Accord and Accord Hybrid, 2018-2020 Odyssey, 2019 Insight, and 2019-2020 Acura RDX models. A manufacturing defect in the front seat belts may cause the buckle release button to interfere with the internal channel, preventing the seat belt from clicking or latching properly. If the belt does not latch, the occupant will not be restrained during a collision. Owners can have the buckle release buttons or full buckle assemblies replaced by a dealer for free.

Risk

If the seat belt buckle does not latch securely, the occupant will not be held in place by the safety restraint system during a crash, significantly increasing the risk of serious injury or death.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if your vehicle is one of the following models: 2017-2020 Honda CR-V, 2018-2019 Honda Accord/Accord Hybrid, 2018-2020 Honda Odyssey, 2019 Honda Insight, or 2019-2020 Acura RDX.
  2. Verify if your front seat belt buckles (driver or passenger) click and stay locked when you attempt to latch them.
  3. Contact an authorized Honda or Acura dealer to schedule a free repair; the dealer will replace the buckle release buttons or the entire buckle assembly as needed.
  4. If you have questions, contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138 and reference recall numbers NDA, QDB, BDC, MDD, LD9, TDF, FDG, ODH, YDI, or ZDE.
  5. For additional information, contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
