TOKAI RIKA Co LTD: Front-Seat Right-Side Seat Belt Assemblies Recalled for Malfunction

Summary

Tokai Rika Co LTD is recalling 106 front-seat outer right-side seat belt assemblies because the force-limiting mechanism may fail to operate correctly. This defect allows the seat belt to extend further than intended after it has locked during a crash, which can prevent the occupant from being properly restrained. Vehicle manufacturers were notified of this safety issue in February 2023, and affected owners will be provided a free inspection and replacement if necessary.

Risk

If the seat belt assembly fails to lock firmly and extends too far, the occupant may not be held securely in place during a collision, significantly increasing the risk of serious injury.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's front passenger seat belt assembly; this recall specifically affects certain front-seat outer right-side seat belt assemblies manufactured by Tokai Rika Co LTD.
  2. If you own a Toyota vehicle, contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331 to determine if your specific vehicle is affected and to schedule a free inspection.
