Summary

Subaru of America, Inc. is recalling approximately 16 model year 2009-2013 Forester vehicles due to a defect in the front seat belt assembly. The force-limiter within the seat belt assembly may not function correctly during a collision, which can prevent the belt from properly restraining a passenger. Owners of these specific vehicles will be able to have their seat belt assemblies inspected and replaced by a dealer at no cost.

Risk

If the seat belt force-limiter fails during a crash, the seat belt may not hold the occupant securely in their seat, significantly increasing the risk of serious injury or death during an impact.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if you own a 2009-2013 Subaru Forester by checking your vehicle registration or the driver's side door jamb for the model year.
  2. Contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614 to confirm if your specific vehicle is one of the 16 units affected by this recall (reference Subaru recall number WRJ-22).
  3. If your vehicle is affected, schedule an appointment with an authorized Subaru dealer for a free inspection and, if necessary, a full replacement of the front seat belt assembly.
  4. For further information or to check your VIN online, visit www.nhtsa.gov/recalls.
  5. Call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) if you have additional questions or safety concerns.
