2015-2017 Ford Mustang Recalled for Corroding Seat Belt Cables

Summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling 332,778 Mustang vehicles from the 2015-2017 model years because the front seat belt anchor pretensioner cables can corrode and break. Exposure to water and road salt causes this damage, which prevents the seat belt from properly restraining people during a collision. Dealers will inspect the assemblies, replace parts as needed, and perform sealing improvements to the vehicle free of charge.

Risk

A corroded cable can snap during a crash, which means the seat belt will not hold the occupant in place. This failure significantly increases the risk of serious injury or death during an accident.

What You Should Do

  1. This recall affects certain 2015-2017 Ford Mustang vehicles where moisture and road salt can cause the seat belt pretensioner cables to fail.
  2. Check if your vehicle is included in this recall by entering your 17-character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) into the NHTSA recall lookup tool at www.nhtsa.gov/recalls.
  3. If your vehicle is affected, contact a Ford or Lincoln dealer to schedule a free repair. Dealers will inspect and replace both front seat belt anchor pretensioner assemblies as necessary.
  4. As part of the repair, dealers will also remove sections of carpet that contact the cables, inspect A-pillar sealing patches, and potentially replace seat bolts to prevent future corrosion.
  5. Contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall number 25S92 for more information.
  6. Call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for additional questions regarding this safety recall.
