Summary

Salsa Cycles is recalling about 2,500 Salsa Bearpaw aluminum bicycle forks sold separately and on Mukluk fat-tire bicycles. These forks can bend or break during use, which can cause the rider to lose control and fall. The affected products were sold in various colors including tequila lime, metallic gold, red, and black between September 2013 and November 2014. Consumers should immediately stop using bicycles equipped with these forks and contact a dealer for a free inspection and replacement.

Risk

The aluminum fork can suddenly bend or break during a ride, leading to a loss of control and posing a serious fall hazard to the rider.

What You Should Do

  1. Immediately stop using any bicycle equipped with the recalled Salsa Bearpaw forks.
  2. Check the fork for a Salsa compass graphic located on the bend of the fork blades to identify the brand.
  3. Identify the specific model and date code by disassembling the front of the bicycle (or having a dealer do so) to inspect the steerer tube. Look for date codes 20130524, 20130710, or 20130826 followed by the code 'CWI2201BAN2'.
  4. If your fork matches these codes, contact an authorized Salsa dealer for a free inspection and a replacement fork.
  5. Contact Salsa Cycles toll-free at (877) 774-6208 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or visit www.salsacycles.com and click the 'Fork Recall' button for more information.
  6. For additional questions, call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772.
