Vermeer Manufacturing Company: BC700XL Brush Chipper Trailers Recalled for Potential Safety Chain Failure

Summary

Vermeer Manufacturing Company is recalling approximately 1,210 of its 2021-2023 BC700XL brush chipper trailers. The recall was initiated because an incorrect retention bolt may have been installed in the safety chain assembly during manufacturing. If this bolt fails, the safety chain can detach from the brush chipper, which could cause the trailer to separate from the towing vehicle while in motion. Dealers will replace the incorrect bolt with a new, correct retention bolt free of charge.

Risk

A safety chain that detaches due to an incorrect bolt increases the risk that the brush chipper could disconnect from the towing vehicle, potentially causing a crash or injury to others on the road.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your equipment to see if it is a Vermeer BC700XL brush chipper trailer from the 2021, 2022, or 2023 model years.
  2. If you own an affected trailer, contact an authorized Vermeer dealer to schedule a free installation of a new retention bolt.
  3. If you have questions regarding this recall, contact Vermeer customer service at 1-800-829-0051 (extension 7060) and reference recall number IK4395.
  4. For additional information, you may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
