General Motors, LLC: Yukon, Tahoe, Suburban, and Escalade Recalled for Daytime Running Lights

Summary

General Motors is recalling 338,735 vehicles, including the 2021 Yukon, Yukon XL, Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, Cadillac Escalade, and Cadillac Escalade ESV. The daytime running lights (DRLs) on these vehicles may fail to turn off when the headlights are activated. Dealers will provide a free software update for the Body Control Module to fix the issue, which can often be completed through an over-the-air update.

Risk

If daytime running lights remain on while headlights are in use, they can cause excessive glare for other drivers. This reduced visibility for oncoming traffic increases the risk of a vehicle crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if your vehicle is one of the following 2021 models: Cadillac Escalade, Cadillac Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, or GMC Yukon XL.
  2. Verify if your vehicle is eligible for an over-the-air (OTA) update for the Body Control Module software, which resolves the lighting issue without requiring a dealership visit.
  3. If your vehicle cannot receive the update remotely, contact a local Chevrolet, GMC, or Cadillac dealer to schedule a free software repair.
  4. For specific questions regarding your vehicle, contact GM customer service at 1-888-988-7267, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, referencing recall number N222382220.
  5. Contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for more information.
