Summary

General Motors is recalling approximately 2,061 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks because the roof-rail air bag inflators may rupture or detach. Affected models include 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500, as well as 2018-2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 Crew Cab trucks. This defect can cause compressed gas to escape and propel metal components into the passenger cabin. Dealers will replace both the left and right side roof-rail air bag modules free of charge.

Risk

If the air bag inflator ruptures or the end cap detaches, metal components can be propelled into the vehicle's interior at high speeds. This creates a significant risk of physical injury to occupants and may cause a crash.
