Ricon Corporation is recalling approximately 1,820 of its R1200 series 6-Way and 4-Way Power Transfer Seat Base (PTSB) motorized seat bases. The gear motor in these motorized bases can fail to lock the seat in place when certain forces are applied, which means the units do not comply with federal safety standards for seating systems. Ricon is currently developing a remedy, and owners will be notified again once a final repair is available.
If the seat motor fails to lock, the seat may move unexpectedly. A seat that moves during a crash may not properly restrain the occupant, significantly increasing the risk of injury.
The remedy is currently under development.
