Summary

Nissan is recalling approximately 375 replacement air bag inflators that may have been installed in several Nissan and Infiniti models during theft or collision repairs. The affected parts include passenger-side inflators for the 2001-2003 Maxima, 2002-2006 Sentra, 2002-2003 Infiniti QX4, and 2006-2010 Infiniti M35/M45, as well as both driver and passenger-side inflators for 2007-2012 Versa Sedan and Hatchback vehicles. These replacement parts can degrade over time when exposed to high humidity and temperature cycles, potentially causing the inflator to explode during air bag deployment. Dealers will inspect and replace the faulty inflators with new ones at no cost to the owner.

Risk

If the air bag deploys, the inflator may explode and send sharp metal fragments flying into the vehicle's cabin. This can cause serious or even fatal injuries to the driver and other passengers.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if your vehicle is one of the affected models: 2002-2003 Infiniti QX4, 2006-2010 Infiniti M35/M45, 2001-2003 Nissan Maxima, 2002-2006 Nissan Sentra, or 2007-2012 Nissan Versa (Sedan or Hatchback).
  2. Determine if your vehicle has ever had an air bag inflator replaced as part of a repair for a collision or theft.
  3. Contact a Nissan or Infiniti dealer to schedule a free inspection and, if necessary, a replacement of the air bag inflator.
  4. You may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 for more information regarding this recall.
