Gillig, LLC: 2023 Low Floor Buses Recalled for Remote Fuel Filter Hose Leaks

Summary

Approximately 54 Gillig 2023 Low Floor buses are being recalled because they are equipped with Cummins L9 diesel engines that may have improperly crimped fuel filter hoses. The insufficient crimping can cause the hoses to disconnect, leading to a fuel leak and a decrease in fuel supply to the engine. Cummins will replace the affected remote fuel filter hoses free of charge to resolve this safety defect.

Risk

A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source significantly increases the risk of a fire. Additionally, if the fuel supply is interrupted, the engine may stall while the bus is in motion, which increases the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle records to determine if you own a 2023 Gillig Low Floor bus equipped with a Cummins L9 diesel engine featuring part number D563027BX03.
  2. Contact Gillig customer service at 1-510-264-5073 or 1-800-735-1500 to confirm if your specific unit is affected and to schedule a free hose replacement by Cummins.
  3. If you notice any signs of fuel leaking or experience unexpected engine stalling, contact your service provider immediately.
  4. For further information or to report additional safety concerns, call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
