Summary

Midwest Trading Group is recalling about 9,400 Remote-Controlled Banshee 3 Channel helicopters because the rechargeable battery can overheat and catch fire. There have been two reports of helicopters overheating, including one incident where flames came from the toy and another resulting in minor property damage. The helicopters were sold at retailers like Ace Hardware and online at PulseTV.com between October and November 2011 for about $40 to $50. Consumers should stop using the helicopters and contact the company for a full refund.

Risk

The internal rechargeable battery can overheat during use or charging, causing the plastic helicopter to ignite. This poses a direct fire and burn hazard to the user and nearby property.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your product packaging for 'Radio Controlled Banshee Helicopter with lights', 'Fly Dragonfly', 'series 3CH-777', and 'SKU #51727'.
  2. Look for a white label on the back of the remote control that reads: 'Date of Production: June 2011', 'Manufacturer Ultimate Products (HK) Ltd.', and 'Distributor MTG Inc.'
  3. Confirm if your helicopter is approximately 19 inches long and 6 inches high, featuring a yellow cockpit with bee decals and either a black/red or black/yellow color scheme.
  4. Stop using the remote-controlled helicopter immediately and disconnect it from any chargers.
  5. Contact Midwest Trading Group toll-free at (866) 815-4714 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or visit www.mtradinggroup.com to receive instructions on how to obtain a full refund.
  6. Call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 if you have additional questions or need further assistance.
