Summary

Reebok-CCM is recalling approximately 3,300 Reebok TCPRE Senior (SR) and Junior (JR) goalie throat collars because they failed safety certification. A hockey skate blade could potentially penetrate the collar, failing to provide the intended protection for a goalie's neck. These black collars with white trim were sold at retail stores nationwide from April 2012 through May 2014 for between $40 and $50. No injuries have been reported, but consumers should immediately stop using these collars and seek a refund or replacement.

Risk

The throat collars were decertified because a skate blade can penetrate the protective material, posing a serious risk of a life-threatening laceration to the throat.

What You Should Do

  1. Immediately stop using the Reebok TCPRE Senior (SR) or Junior (JR) Goalie Throat Collars.
  2. Check the label sewn onto the inside of the throat collar pad or the original polybag packaging for model numbers K101SR TCPRE or K101JR TCPRE.
  3. Verify the product has the word 'Reebok' embroidered at the base, the BNQ certification mark screen-printed, and the words 'Ballistic Nylon Ballistique' on the right side.
  4. Contact your local hockey dealer to return the recalled collar for a full refund or a replacement product.
  5. Alternatively, contact Reebok-CCM at (800) 451-4600 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, or visit www.reebokccm.com and click on 'Goalie Throat Collar Recall' at the bottom of the page for direct return and refund instructions.
  6. Call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 if you have additional questions about this recall.
