Summary

Hyundai is recalling 1,589 of its 2025 IONIQ 5 "N" vehicles due to a software error in the electronic brake and vehicle control units. This defect may cause the brakes to perform poorly when using the left-foot braking technique or lead to unintended acceleration while the N e-shift feature is active and the pedal is released. Hyundai will provide a free software update for all affected vehicles, which can be performed over-the-air or at a dealership.

Risk

Reduced braking performance and unexpected, continued acceleration significantly increase the risk of a crash. Drivers using high-performance driving features like left-foot braking or N e-shift are most at risk of experiencing these dangerous software failures.

What You Should Do

  1. This recall affects 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 "N" vehicles equipped with left-foot braking (LFB) and N e-shift features.
  2. Stop using the left-foot braking (LFB) and N e-shift features immediately until the software update has been completed on your vehicle.
  3. Check your vehicle's infotainment screen for a notification about an over-the-air (OTA) software update for the Integrated Electronic Brake (IEB) and Vehicle Control Unit (VCU).
  4. If your vehicle is not equipped for over-the-air updates or you prefer an in-person fix, contact your local Hyundai dealer to schedule a free software update.
  5. If your vehicle was previously repaired under recall 25V-065, you must still have this new software update (recall 277) performed to ensure the issue is fully resolved.
  6. Contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 and mention recall number 277 for more information.
  7. Call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or go to www.nhtsa.gov/recalls for additional questions.
