Summary

Hyundai Motor America is recalling 1,587 units of the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 "N" vehicle equipped with the left-foot braking (LFB) feature. A software error in the integrated electronic brake (IEB) and vehicle control unit (VCU) can cause the car to have reduced braking power when the LFB feature is used. To fix this, Hyundai dealers will perform a free software update for all affected vehicles.

Risk

Reduced braking performance when left-foot braking is activated can significantly increase the distance required to stop the vehicle, which increases the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. If you have not yet received the recall repair, do not use the left-foot braking (LFB) feature while driving.
  2. If you have already received a previous version of this recall repair, do not use the 'N' E-shift feature until the updated remedy in this new recall (25V-235) has been performed.
  3. Contact a Hyundai dealer to schedule a free update for the integrated electronic brake (IEB) and vehicle control unit (VCU) software.
  4. Dealers will update the IEB and VCU software, free of charge. Owners who have already had their vehicles repaired under this recall number will need to have the new remedy completed again.
