Summary

American Honda is recalling approximately 25,000 Model Year 2019 and 2020 Honda Pioneer 1000 and Talon 1000 side-by-side vehicles. These vehicles can move or roll while the gear shifter is in the 'Park' position, which has led to three reports of unintended movement. The recalled off-highway vehicles were sold in red, blue, green, gray, and yellow at Honda Powersports dealers nationwide from November 2018 through March 2020. Consumers should stop using the vehicles and contact a dealer for a free inspection and repair.

Risk

The vehicle's transmission may not properly engage or hold the 'Park' position, allowing it to roll away unexpectedly. This defect poses a significant risk of crashes and impact injuries to riders or bystanders, especially if the vehicle is parked on an incline.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's model name (Pioneer 1000 or Talon) on the labels located on both sides of the vehicle to see if it matches the recalled models.
  2. Locate your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to confirm it is within the affected range: for Pioneer 1000 models, check the frame at the left rear below the tilt-up bed/seat; for Talon 1000 models, check the left side of the frame under the left front fender.
  3. Immediately stop using the recalled vehicles until they have been inspected and repaired by an authorized professional.
  4. Contact an authorized Honda Powersports dealer to schedule an appointment for a free inspection and repair of the parking mechanism.
  5. Contact American Honda toll-free at 866-784-1870 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. PT Monday through Friday or visit http://powersports.honda.com/ and click on 'Recall Information' for more details.
  6. Call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 if you have additional questions regarding this safety recall.
