Honda (American Honda Motor Co.): 2017-2019 Ridgeline Recalled for Rearview Camera Failure

Summary

Honda is recalling 117,445 model year 2017-2019 Ridgeline pickup trucks because the rearview camera may stop working. Repeatedly opening and closing the tailgate can fatigue and break the internal wiring harness that connects the camera to the vehicle. Honda dealers will replace the affected wiring harness with an improved version at no cost to the owner.

Risk

If the wiring harness breaks, the rearview camera will fail to display an image when the vehicle is in reverse. This loss of visibility significantly increases the risk of backing into people or objects, which can lead to a crash or injury.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle registration or VIN to determine if you own a 2017, 2018, or 2019 Honda Ridgeline.
  2. If you own one of these vehicles, contact your local authorized Honda dealer to schedule an appointment for a free repair.
  3. Inform the dealer that you are calling about recall number 6RW to have the rearview camera wiring harness replaced.
  4. For additional information, you can contact Honda Customer Service directly at 1-888-234-2138.
  5. For further safety information, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
