Ford Motor Company: 2021-2022 Ford Bronco Recalled for Rearview Camera Malfunction

Summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 1,651 of its 2021-2022 Bronco vehicles equipped with 8-inch SYNC infotainment screens. These specific vehicles were previously repaired under a different recall but may still exhibit a defect where the rearview camera image stays on the screen after the driver has finished backing up. To fix this, Ford will provide a free software update for the SYNC module through a dealership or an over-the-air (OTA) update.

Risk

If the rearview camera image continues to display after the vehicle is shifted out of reverse, it can distract the driver and increase the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking for 2021-2022 Ford Bronco models equipped with the 8-inch SYNC infotainment system.
  2. Check your mail for an owner notification letter, which Ford began mailing on March 28, 2024, or contact a Ford dealer to see if your VIN is included in recall 23C05.
  3. If your vehicle is capable of receiving over-the-air (OTA) updates, ensure your system is connected to the internet to receive the SYNC module software update automatically.
  4. Alternatively, schedule a service appointment with an authorized Ford dealer to have the SYNC module software updated manually at no cost to you.
  5. For further information or assistance, contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall number 23C05.
  6. Contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for additional safety information.
