Summary

Polestar Automotive USA, Inc. is recalling approximately 3,664 Polestar 3 vehicles because the rearview camera image may not display when the vehicle is placed in reverse. This malfunction means the vehicles do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, which regulates rear visibility. Polestar will fix the issue by providing a free software update that can be performed by a dealer or through an over-the-air (OTA) update.

Risk

If the rearview camera image does not appear, the driver's view of what is behind the vehicle is significantly reduced. This increases the risk of a crash or hitting a pedestrian while the vehicle is in reverse.

What You Should Do

  1. This recall involves certain Polestar 3 vehicles where the rearview camera may fail to show an image on the dashboard screen when the car is backing up.
  2. Identify your vehicle's status by contacting Polestar customer service at 1-800-806-2504 and mentioning recall number RP1057.
  3. Check your vehicle's center display for notifications regarding an over-the-air (OTA) software update, which can be installed remotely to resolve the issue without a dealer visit.
  4. If an OTA update is not used, contact an authorized Polestar dealer to schedule a free software update.
  5. Call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov/recalls for more information.
