Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.: Volkswagen Golf and Atlas Vehicles Recalled for Rearview Camera Failure

Summary

Volkswagen is recalling approximately 84,432 vehicles, including certain 2022-2024 Golf R and Golf GTI models, as well as 2024 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport vehicles. The rearview camera image in these vehicles may fail to display, appearing delayed or deactivated after the driver shifts into reverse. This malfunction means the vehicles do not meet federal safety standards for rear visibility. Volkswagen dealers will provide a free software update to the infotainment system to resolve the issue.

Risk

A delayed or deactivated rearview camera prevents the driver from seeing obstacles or people behind the vehicle while reversing. This significantly increases the risk of a crash or injury to pedestrians.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking your model and year: 2022-2024 Golf R, 2022-2024 Golf GTI, 2024 Atlas, or 2024 Atlas Cross Sport.
  2. Locate your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and contact any authorized Volkswagen dealer to schedule a free appointment for an infotainment system software update.
  3. If you have questions or need assistance, contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298 and reference recall number 91US.
  4. You may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for more information.
