Summary

Polestar Automotive USA is recalling approximately 25,825 Polestar 2 vehicles from model years 2021 through 2024. The software in the Infotainment Head Unit (IHU) may malfunction, preventing the rearview camera image from appearing when the vehicle is in reverse. Polestar has released a free over-the-air (OTA) software update to fix this issue and began mailing formal notification letters to owners on August 9, 2024.

Risk

If the rearview camera image fails to display while reversing, the driver's visibility is significantly reduced. This failure increases the risk of striking objects or pedestrians, potentially leading to a crash or injury.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if your vehicle is a 2021, 2022, 2023, or 2024 Polestar 2.
  2. Check your vehicle's infotainment system for an available over-the-air (OTA) software update and follow the on-screen instructions to install the IHU software fix provided by Polestar.
  3. Contact Polestar customer service at 1-800-806-2504 if you have questions about the software update or if your vehicle has not yet received the notification; refer to recall number RP1016.
  4. Contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for more information.
