Summary

Kia America is recalling 144,979 of its 2022-2023 Sorento, Sorento Hybrid, and Sorento Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) vehicles. The mounting clips for the rearview camera can break, which prevents the camera image from appearing properly on the dashboard display. Kia dealers will inspect the camera housing and replace it with a new one if necessary, free of charge.

Risk

A rearview camera that fails to display an image reduces the driver's visibility behind the vehicle, which significantly increases the risk of a crash or hitting a pedestrian while reversing.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's make, model, and year to see if you own a 2022-2023 Sorento, 2022-2023 Sorento Hybrid, or 2022-2023 Sorento Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV).
  2. Contact an authorized Kia dealer to schedule a free inspection and repair of the rearview camera housing.
  3. If you have questions, contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542 and mention recall number SC280.
  4. For additional information, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
