Summary

Chinook Motor Coach, LLC is recalling 73 of its 2022-2024 Bayside motorhomes because the rearview camera, or the 360-degree view camera if equipped, may fail to show an image when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. Ford dealers will replace the camera and update the vehicle's software and wiring as necessary at no cost to owners. While initial notices were mailed in November 2023, a second notice will be sent once the necessary repair parts become available, which is expected in the second quarter of 2024.

Risk

If the rearview camera image does not display when the vehicle is in reverse, the driver has significantly reduced visibility of what is behind them. This loss of visibility increases the risk of a crash or hitting a pedestrian.

What You Should Do

  1. Confirm if your vehicle is a 2022-2024 Chinook Bayside motorhome.
  2. Pay extra attention when reversing your vehicle, as the camera image may intermittently fail to appear.
  3. Contact Chinook customer service at 1-574-584-3756 to confirm if your vehicle is included in this recall and to ask questions about the repair timeline.
  4. Contact a Ford dealer to schedule a free appointment to have the rearview camera replaced and the software and wiring updated.
  5. Look for a second notification letter in the mail, anticipated in the second quarter of 2024, which will signal that the remedy parts are ready at dealerships.
  6. For additional information, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
