Ford Motor Company: 2020-2023 Ford and Lincoln Vehicles Recalled for Rearview Camera Failure

Summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 382,759 vehicles, including certain 2020-2023 Ford Explorer, Lincoln Aviator, and 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsair models equipped with a 360-degree camera system. The 360-degree camera's video output may fail, which prevents the rearview image from appearing on the dashboard display when reversing. Dealers will provide a free software update for the image processing module to fix the issue, even if the vehicle was previously repaired under an earlier recall (21V-735).

Risk

If the rearview camera image fails to display while the vehicle is in reverse, the driver's visibility is significantly reduced. This failure increases the risk of hitting a person or object behind the vehicle, potentially leading to a crash or injury.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking for these specific models: 2020-2023 Ford Explorer, 2020-2023 Lincoln Aviator, or 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsair equipped with a 360-degree camera system.
  2. Contact a Ford or Lincoln dealer to schedule a free appointment to have your vehicle's image processing module (IPMB) software updated.
  3. If your vehicle was previously repaired under recall 21V-735, you must still bring your vehicle in for this new software update to ensure the problem is fully resolved.
  4. For more information or to ask questions about this recall (Ford recall number 23S02), contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.
