Summary

General Motors is recalling approximately 1,055 vehicles, including certain 2020-2022 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks. These vehicles may have been incorrectly repaired during a previous recall, leaving them with a transmission control valve that can fail. If this valve fails, it can cause the rear wheels to lock up suddenly while driving, which may lead to a loss of vehicle control and a crash. Dealers will inspect the vehicles and provide a free software update to address the issue.

Risk

A failure in the transmission control valve can cause the rear wheels to lock up without warning. This sudden lock up significantly increases the risk of a crash, especially at higher speeds or in heavy traffic.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the NHTSA.gov website or contact your dealer to see if your 2020-2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2500, 3500, or GMC Sierra 1500, 2500, 3500 is affected.
  2. Schedule an appointment with a Chevrolet or GMC dealer for a free inspection and transmission control software update.
  3. If you have further questions, contact GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, referencing GM recall number N252516560.
  4. Call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) for more information regarding this safety recall.
