Honda (American Honda Motor Co.): 2007-2011 CR-V Recalled for Rear Trailing Arm Detachment Due to Corrosion

Summary

American Honda Motor Co. is recalling approximately 616,128 model year 2007-2011 CR-V vehicles that were sold or ever registered in specific salt-belt states. In these regions, road salt can accumulate on the vehicle's frame, causing it to corrode. This severe corrosion can lead to the rear trailing arm detaching from the vehicle frame. Dealers will inspect the vehicle and either install a support brace, repair the frame, or in some cases of extreme damage, offer to repurchase the vehicle entirely.

Risk

If the rear trailing arm detaches from the vehicle frame, it can cause a sudden loss of vehicle control. This significantly increases the risk of a crash and potential injury to occupants or others on the road.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is a 2007-2011 Honda CR-V that has been registered or driven in CT, DE, IL, IN, IA, KY, ME, MD, MA, MI, MN, MO, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, VT, VA, WV, D.C., or WI.
  2. Contact an authorized Honda dealer to schedule a free inspection of your vehicle's rear frame.
  3. Depending on the inspection results, allow the dealer to install a support brace or perform necessary frame repairs at no cost to you.
  4. If the corrosion is too severe to be safely repaired, discuss the vehicle repurchase offer with your Honda dealer.
  5. For more information, contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138 and reference recall number UE3.
