Summary

Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling approximately 70,225 vehicles across several 2022-2023 models including the GLE, GLS, and Maybach classes because the rear door window trim bars can detach while the vehicle is in motion. This defect was identified as an expansion of a previous recall (22V-680) to ensure consumer safety across a wider range of affected units. Owners are being asked to visit an authorized dealer for a free inspection and to have the trim bars secured if necessary.

Risk

The trim bars can fly off the vehicle while driving, creating a sudden road hazard for other drivers and significantly increasing the risk of a crash or injury to others on the road.

What You Should Do

  1. Confirm if your vehicle is one of the affected 2022-2023 models: GLE350, GLE450, GLE580, GLS450, GLS580, Maybach GLS600, AMG GLE53, AMG GLE63 S, or AMG GLS63.
  2. Check your mail for an owner notification letter, which Mercedes-Benz began mailing on May 5, 2023.
  3. Contact an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer to schedule a free inspection where technicians will secure the rear window trim bars as needed.
  4. If you have additional questions, contact Mercedes-Benz USA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 and mention recall number 2023040011.
  5. For further assistance, call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
