Braun Ambulances: Chief XL, Express, and Other Ambulances Recalled for Rear Door Striker Bolts

Summary

Braun Ambulances is recalling approximately 1,240 ambulances from various series including the 2018-2022 Chief XL, Express, Express Plus, Liberty, Super Chief, TLC, and Signature Series. The recall was issued because the top striker bolts on the rear doors can become loose and eventually fall out while the vehicle is being driven. Dealers will inspect the door hardware and replace the striker bolts with new components free of charge.

Risk

If the striker bolts dislodge, the rear door latch may fail, which could cause the doors to open unexpectedly during a crash. This failure significantly increases the risk of injury to patients and emergency personnel inside the vehicle.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your ambulance is affected by checking the model and manufacturing year: this recall includes 2018-2022 Braun Chief XL, Express, Express Plus, Liberty, Super Chief, TLC, and Signature Series models.
  2. Inspect the top striker bolts on the rear doors to ensure they are secure and have not become loose or dislodged.
  3. Contact Braun Ambulances customer service at 1-877-344-9990 to schedule a free inspection and replacement of the striker bolts at an authorized dealer.
  4. Refer to Braun's internal recall number 22-001 when speaking with the manufacturer or your local dealer.
  5. For additional information or to check your VIN, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
