Summary

Razor USA has recalled approximately 237,300 GLW battery packs used in Hovertrax 2.0 brand self-balancing hoverboards sold nationwide at stores like Walmart, Target, and Amazon between September 2016 and 2018. The lithium-ion battery packs, manufactured between September 2016 and August 2017, are prone to overheating and pose a fire risk. Consumers should immediately stop using these hoverboards and contact Razor for a free replacement battery pack.

Risk

The lithium-ion battery packs can overheat, causing the hoverboard to smoke, catch fire, or explode. There have been more than 20 reports of these battery packs overheating, including instances of smoke and fire, though no injuries have been reported.

What You Should Do

  1. Immediately stop using the Hovertrax 2.0 self-balancing scooter/hoverboard if it contains a GLW battery pack.
  2. Check the hoverboard for 'Hovertrax 2.0' printed on the front and look at the battery pack to see if the name 'GLW' is written in large letters.
  3. Verify the serial number on the white sticker below the barcode on the top of the battery pack; recalled units have serial numbers beginning with 'GLW'.
  4. Contact Razor for instructions on how to obtain a prepaid shipping carton to send the GLW battery pack back to Razor, and to receive a free replacement battery pack. Reach Razor toll-free at 866-467-2967 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday, or online at www.Razor.com and click on CPSC Safety Recalls.
