Summary

RacerMate is recalling about 25,000 CompuTrainer Blue Flywheels used for indoor bicycle training. These blue zinc die-cast flywheels, manufactured before 2008, can shatter during use and throw metal fragments into the air. RacerMate has received five reports of flywheels shattering, which resulted in three injuries including lacerations and leg bruises. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled blue flywheels and contact RacerMate for a free silver replacement flywheel.

Risk

The zinc die-cast flywheel can shatter while spinning at high speeds, propelling sharp metal pieces toward the rider or bystanders, which can cause impact injuries and lacerations.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your CompuTrainer flywheel to determine if it is blue. Recalled units are blue in color, measure 4.75 inches in diameter, and weigh 1.1 pounds.
  2. Verify if your flywheel was manufactured before 2008. Note that silver flywheels manufactured after 2008 are not included in this recall.
  3. Immediately stop using the bicycle trainer if it is equipped with the recalled blue flywheel.
  4. Remove the blue flywheel from the trainer unit.
