R.W. Beckett Recalls Fuel Oil Valves Due to Fire Hazard

Summary

R.W. Beckett is recalling about 18,000 Firomatic fusible safety valves used on fuel lines for oil-burning appliances. The valve stem can fail to properly seal or shut off the flow of fuel, which can cause fuel to leak. These valves were sold by HVAC distributors nationwide between September 2011 and September 2016 for approximately $40. Consumers should immediately contact the company for a free repair kit or a replacement valve and free installation.

Risk

The valve stem does not seal correctly, allowing fuel to leak out. This leakage poses a fire hazard if the fuel ignites.

What You Should Do

  1. Locate the fuel lines leading to your oil-burning appliance to check for the affected valve.
  2. Identify the valve by looking for a metal ring on top of the valve body stamped with 'FIROMATIC SERIES 200' and check the valve body itself for the word 'Firomatic' cast into the metal.
  3. If you have a recalled Firomatic ½ inch FPT series 200 valve, contact R.W. Beckett immediately to arrange for a free repair kit or a replacement valve with free professional installation.
  4. Contact R.W. Beckett at 800-645-2876 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, or visit www.beckettcorp.com and click on 'Support/Technical Bulletins' for more information.
