Summary

Q'Straint is recalling approximately 7,500 QRT-3 wheelchair retractors because the locking mechanism may fail. When these retractors do not lock, the wheelchair cannot be properly secured to the vehicle floor. Dealers will inspect and replace the affected retractors free of charge to ensure passenger safety.

Risk

If the retractor fails to lock, the wheelchair can move unexpectedly during transit or in the event of a sudden stop. This movement significantly increases the risk of injury to the wheelchair occupant and other passengers.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your wheelchair securement system to see if it uses Q'Straint QRT-3 model retractors.
  2. If you have an affected QRT-3 retractor, contact Q'Straint customer service at 1-800-987-9987 to learn more about the recall and next steps.
  3. Schedule an appointment with an authorized dealer to have your wheelchair retractors inspected and, if necessary, replaced free of charge.
  4. Call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov/recalls for more information.
