Purina Mills LLC: Various Sheep Feeds Recalled for Excess Copper Levels

Summary

Purina Mills LLC has recalled 24,985 units of several Honor Showlamb and Land O Lakes medicated sheep feed products because they contain higher than acceptable levels of copper. These products, which include various pellets and balancers, were sold in 50-lb. bags and bulk quantities to feed dealers in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, and Nebraska. Consumers should immediately stop using these feeds for their sheep and return any remaining product to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Risk

Sheep are highly sensitive to copper; consuming feed with elevated copper levels can lead to copper toxicity, which causes liver damage and can be fatal to the animals.

  3. Return all remaining bags or bulk feed to the feed dealer or place of purchase to receive a full refund.
  4. Contact your veterinarian if your animals have consumed these products and show signs of illness, such as lethargy or yellowing of the eyes and gums.
