Precision Trading Recalls Espresso Makers Due to Risk of Burns

Summary

Precision Trading is recalling about 4,700 PREMIUM® four-cup Espresso Makers because the filler cap at the top of the machine can crack or pop off unexpectedly. This can cause steam to escape or the cap to be propelled into the air by pressure buildup, posing serious burn and impact risks. One consumer has already reported sustaining burns to her arm when the cap released steam suddenly. The affected machines were sold primarily at BrandMart U.S.A. and other stores in Florida and Puerto Rico between November 2014 and February 2015. Precision Trading is providing free replacement caps to all affected owners.

Risk

The espresso maker's filler cap can fail under pressure, either cracking to release hot steam onto the user or blowing off entirely, potentially striking bystanders or causing burns from the released steam.

What You Should Do

  1. Immediately stop using the PREMIUM® four-cup espresso maker.
  2. Check the bottom of your espresso maker for a rating label to verify if it is affected. The recalled model number is PEM585 and the product date codes are '0914' (September 2014) or '1114' (November 2014).
  3. Look at the filler cap on top of the machine. If the cap is marked with '2015', it is not included in this recall and is safe to use.
  4. Contact Precision Trading Corp. to request a free replacement cap by calling (800) 477-4501 between 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or by emailing recall@precisiontrading.com.
