Mack Trucks, Inc.: LR Battery Electric Trucks Recalled Due to Fire Risk

Summary

Mack Trucks, Inc. is recalling approximately 47 LR battery electric trucks from the 2019-2023 model years. The power cables connected to the windscreen heater relay may have been improperly tightened, which can cause the relay to fail. To fix this issue, dealers will tighten the power cable to the relay connection free of charge.

Risk

If the relay fails in the closed position, it will continue to power the cabin heater even when not in use. This can lead to the relay overheating and significantly increases the risk of a vehicle fire.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking your records for a 2019-2023 Mack LR battery electric truck.
  2. Contact any authorized Mack Trucks dealer to schedule a free appointment to have the power cable to relay connection tightened.
  3. If you have questions, contact Mack's customer service department at 1-800-866-1177 and reference recall number SCC0444.
  4. For additional information, you may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
