Summary

Powell Company is recalling approximately 6,300 Anywhere Lounger Bean Bag Chairs because they lack a permanent zipper closure. This allows children to unzip the chair and access the small polystyrene beads inside, which can be inhaled or ingested. The chairs were sold in various colors and materials, including 100% polyester and 100% cotton, at furniture stores nationwide and online at Groupon.com between June 2012 and February 2013 for about $100. No incidents or injuries have been reported, but the manufacturer is providing a free repair kit to secure the zippers.

Risk

The exterior zipper on these bean bag chairs can be opened by young children, allowing them to inhale or ingest the small internal beads. This poses a serious risk of suffocation or strangulation if the beads enter the child's airway.

What You Should Do

  1. Immediately take the Anywhere Lounger Bean Bag Chair away from young children and keep it out of their reach.
  2. Inspect the exterior of the bean bag chair to determine if the zipper can be opened. The item number (e.g., 199-B004 through 199-B017) is printed on the product packaging, and the 'Powell Company' name is on the product label.
  3. If the zipper on your chair can be opened, contact Powell Company at 800-622-4456 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT to receive a free Safety Enhancement Repair Kit.
