Hyper Tough, Worx, and Portland Chainsaws Recalled for Laceration Hazard

Summary

Positec has recalled approximately 49,000 electric corded chainsaws and pole saws because the main switch can fail and stay in the "on" position even after the trigger is released. This defect allows the saw to continue running unexpectedly, posing a serious laceration hazard to the operator. The recall involves specific 14-inch chainsaws and pole saws sold under the Hyper Tough, Worx, and Portland brands at Walmart, Harbor Freight, Amazon, and Worx.com between September 2024 and March 2025. Consumers should immediately stop using these tools and contact Positec to receive a free replacement.

Risk

The power switch on these saws can malfunction and fail to cut power when released, meaning the saw blade or chain will not stop moving. This creates an immediate risk of accidental cuts and severe lacerations to the user or bystanders. While no injuries have been reported to date, the mechanical failure presents a significant safety risk during use.

What You Should Do

  1. This recall affects corded electric chainsaws and pole saws sold under the Hyper Tough, Worx, and Portland brands, specifically those manufactured or sold between September 2024 and March 2025.
  2. Check your saw for the following identifiers: Hyper Tough (Model HT21-401-002-01), Worx (Models WG305 or WG309), or Portland (SKU 58949 and UPC 193175451774).
  3. Verify the serial number or manufacture date on the saw body: Hyper Tough units dated 10/10/2024 to 12/01/2024; Worx units with serial numbers starting between 202408 and 202501; and Portland units with serial numbers between 37567 2442 and 37567 2451.
  4. Stop using the recalled chainsaws and pole saws immediately and unplug them from any power source.
  5. Contact Positec to request a pre-paid shipping label and a shipping box to return your recalled saw free of charge.
  6. Positec will provide a free replacement chainsaw or pole saw once they receive your returned product.
  7. Call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 for additional information or questions regarding this recall.
