Summary

Positec has recalled about 36,250 Blue Ridge Utility Knives (Model BR922OU) because the blade can protrude through the original packaging. The 6-inch retractable knives can accidentally unlock while still in their store packaging, posing a risk of cuts to anyone handling them. Two reports of the blade sticking out have been received, both of which resulted in laceration injuries. These silver-colored knives were sold exclusively at Target from August 2022 through February 2023.

Risk

The knife blade can become unlocked and poke through the plastic packaging, potentially cutting consumers while they are handling the unopened product in a store or at home. Two people have already reported being injured by blades protruding from the packaging.

What You Should Do

  1. This recall involves silver Blue Ridge Utility Knives with a six-inch retractable blade and model number BR922OU printed on the back of the package.
  2. Identify the product by its blue and teal packaging, which features an orange-and-white mountain logo at the top and the Blue Ridge logo on the knife handle.
  3. Carefully and immediately inspect the packaging of any unopened Blue Ridge Utility Knife to determine if the blade tip is poking through the plastic.
  4. Carefully remove the knife from the packaging while avoiding the blade tip, then discard the original packaging.
  5. To secure the knife for future use, ensure it is fully retracted and locked in the closed position; once the original packaging is removed and the blade is locked, the knife can be used normally.
