Polaris Recalls Ranger and General Utility Vehicles Due to Crash Hazard (Recall Alert)

Summary

Polaris has recalled approximately 26,730 Ranger and General utility vehicles (UTVs) due to a software defect that can cause the throttle to fail to return to idle after the engine stalls and is restarted in gear. This defect can lead to sudden, unintended acceleration. No incidents or injuries have been reported to date, but the issue affects 2019 and 2020 models sold in various colors including gray, blue, white, red, green camo, orange, sand, and maroon from June 2018 through March 2020. Polaris will provide a free software update to resolve this crash hazard.

Risk

A software malfunction prevents the throttle from returning to the idle position if the vehicle stalls and is restarted while still in gear without first cycling the key to the off position. This can cause the vehicle to accelerate unexpectedly, leading to a loss of control and a crash hazard for the operator and passengers.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle for the name 'POLARIS' stamped on the front grille and 'Ranger' or 'General' printed on the sides of the rear cargo area to see if it is a 2019-2020 Polaris Ranger XP 1000, Ranger CREW XP 1000, General XP 1000 Deluxe, or General XP 4 1000 Deluxe.
  2. Locate your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) stamped into the left rear vehicle frame below the cargo box to confirm if your specific unit is affected.
  3. Immediately stop using the recalled vehicles and contact an authorized Polaris dealer to schedule a free inspection and software repair.
  4. Verify if your vehicle is part of this or any other recall by entering your VIN on the 'Product Safety Recalls' page at www.polaris.com.
  5. Contact Polaris at 800-765-2747 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CT Monday through Friday or visit www.polaris.com and click on 'Off Road Safety Recalls' for more information.
  6. For additional questions, contact the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 or visit www.cpsc.gov.
